Welcome to the thirty-fifth issue of “Sodium-ion Batteries Technology Updates,” a series from Indi Energy, one of the world’s leading sodium battery companies and India’s first indigenous sodium-ion battery manufacturers.
Indi Energy is a DRDO 3.0, NSA’22, & SIDBI Environmental Challenge’24 winner and one of the world’s leading sodium battery companies involved in developing, developing, and commercializing sodium-ion batteries and customizable sodium-ion battery packs.
As part of the Make in India initiative, Indi Energy has its own supply chain for our sodium-ion batteries, which is completely indigenous, a.k.a. homegrown. We are setting a new benchmark in the energy storage sector by transforming energy storage solutions sustainably. In this thirty-fifth issue of sodium-ion battery technology updates, we will go through the recent updates in the world of sodium-ion batteries, the energy sector, and an overview of the global energy outlook.
Secret to Indi Energy’s SIB Stability!
Have you ever wondered why there are warnings on lithium-ion batteries that say: don’t puncture, pierce, or crush them?
Well, let’s tell you about it. In a lithium-ion battery, two electrodes are separated by an electrolyte which is responsible for the flow of electric charge from the cathode to the anode. Damaging a lithium-ion battery can cause an electrolyte leak which when comes into contact with other components eventually leads to a short circuit. This short circuit generates heat and triggers a chain reaction known as thermal runaway—the primary reason behind lithium-ion battery explosions and fires.
But did you know that sodium-ion batteries and customizable sodium-ion battery packs do not have this problem? Yeah, that’s right! Our proprietary sodium-ion electrolyte has far superior stability at high temperatures and is less likely to decompose than conventional electrolytes, preventing thermal runaway.
With a higher ionic conductivity for greater sodium-ion transport per unit of time, faster diffusion, higher power output, rapid charging times, low volatility, and enhanced solubility for sodium salts, our Sodium-ion electrolyte setting a new benchmark for liquid electrolytes!
Indi Energy takes a stand against Child Labor!
On the occasion of Anti-Child Labor Day, June 12th, we at Indi Energy stand united with global efforts to eradicate child labor. As one of the leading sodium battery companies in the world and sustainable energy solutions, we recognize the importance of upholding ethical practices in the pursuit of building a brighter and more equitable future.
The demand for lithium, cobalt, and nickel in traditional lithium-ion batteries has unfortunately led to the exploitation of children in mining operations in several developing countries. These mining activities not only displace communities but also pose severe health risks. Lithium mining has a hazardous environmental impact; cobalt exposure can cause cancer and respiratory illnesses; and nickel mining contributes to significant environmental degradation.
Children in these mining communities suffer from severe birth defects, developmental damage, and severe health issues due to direct and indirect exposure to these heavy metals. These young, innocent hands are forced to work in toxic conditions, scrounging for materials that end up in our electronic devices!
At Indi Energy, we have chosen a different path by pioneering sodium-ion battery technology. Our innovation allows us to avoid the ethical and environmental pitfalls associated with lithium, cobalt, and nickel mining. We are not just about providing sustainable energy solutions, but empowering communities and ensuring a future where everyone thrives! We are committed to providing clean energy solutions that do not compromise human rights or environmental integrity.
We are the innovators reshaping the energy storage landscape. Our sodium-ion batteries exemplify our commitment to innovative and sustainable energy solutions. The potential impact of our sodium-ion batteries on climate action has led to Energy Alternatives India and The Better India naming Indi Energy as one of its “Top 100 Innovative Indian Startups in Climate Action,” and “5 Innovating Startups Revolutionising India’s Renewable Energy Sector.”
