Welcome to the thirty-fourth issue of “Sodium-ion Batteries Technology Updates,” a series from Indi Energy, one of the world’s leading sodium battery companies and India’s first indigenous sodium-ion battery manufacturers.

In this thirty-fourth issue of sodium-ion battery technology updates, we will go through the recent updates in the world of sodium-ion batteries, the energy sector, and an overview of the global energy outlook. 

World Environment Day 24!

On this World Environment Day, we at Indi Energy, one of the world’s leading sodium battery companies, would like to take this opportunity to challenge the conventional wisdom around lithium-ion batteries. Are lithium-ion batteries truly the heroes of sustainability they were once proclaimed to be, or is there more beneath the surface?

There is a growing need to reduce carbon emissions, now more than ever. Climate change is undeniable and is here already, with the world breaking temperature records—a direct consequence of our dependence on fossil fuels, which account for over 75% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

However, the mining of lithium, cobalt, and nickel disrupts ecosystems and poses significant recycling challenges due to toxic materials. Additionally, child labor and human rights violations in mining operations are also serious ethical concerns. Is this the sustainability we strive for?

In this era of technological advancement and growing climate awareness, it’s crucial to examine the real impact of these batteries on our quest for a sustainable future. We often justify compromises for the ‘greater good,’ but it’s time to say, “No More!” Sustainability must not and cannot sacrifice resources, lives, the environment, and our moral compass.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres highlighted the urgent need for radical action on climate change with July 2023 breaking records for intense heat, signaling the era of global boiling! A stark warning that underscored the impending arrival of El Niño in 2024.

A naturally occurring phenomenon, El Niño warms surface waters and raises global temperatures even further. Its devastating impact, exacerbated by GHG emissions from fossil fuels, makes the need for innovative and truly sustainable energy solutions more critical.
