Welcome to the thirty-third issue of “Sodium-ion Batteries Technology Updates,” a series from Indi Energy, one of the world’s leading sodium battery companies and India’s first indigenous sodium-ion battery manufacturers.

Indi Energy is a DRDO 3.0NSA’22, & SIDBI Environmental Challenge’24 winner and one of the world’s leading sodium battery companies. In the last five years, we have committed ourselves to research, developing, and commercializing sodium-ion batteries and customized sodium-ion battery packs.

We are a part of the Make in India initiative; our supply chain for our sodium-ion batteries is completely indigenous, a.k.a., homegrown. We are setting a new benchmark in the energy storage sector by transforming energy storage solutions sustainably.

In this thirty-third issue of sodium-ion battery technology updates, we will go through the recent updates in the world of sodium-ion batteries, the energy sector, and an overview of the global energy outlook.

Indi Energy: Shaping Tomorrow Sustainable!

At Indi Energy, we endeavour to deliver value to society and the environment through sustainable solutions. Five years ago, when we embarked on developing our sodium-ion battery technology, we understood its potential to reshape global energy dynamics and address India’s socio-environmental challenges.

By converting biowaste into our patented top-rated hard carbon, BioBlackTM, and harnessing sodium, one of the earth’s most abundant elements, we are revolutionizing energy storage and simultaneously revitalizing rural economies, promoting sustainability, and advancing climate goals.

Our sodium-ion battery technology isn’t just a breakthrough; it’s a catalyst for change aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals on multiple fronts:

  • SDG 1: Affordable, reliable, clean energy.

Our technology is a clean energy source that will enable universal accessibility to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy services.

  • SDG 2: Economic growth, innovation, and employment.

We have created a market for agricultural waste and biowaste that provides a new source of income for farmers while also creating new job opportunities for communities and society at large.

  • SDG 3: Resilient infrastructure and industrialization.

Indi Energy’s sodium-ion technology empowers industries to become sustainable by reducing their carbon footprint and becoming more energy-efficient.

  • SDG 4: Sustainable consumption and production.

Our rechargeable and highly recyclable batteries reduce the global reliance on scarce materials and eliminate hazardous environmental impacts, supporting a worldwide transition towards a circular economy.

  • SDG 5: Climate action.

Indi Energy is leading the fight against climate change by accelerating the world’s transition to a low-carbon economy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Indi Energy’s sodium-ion batteries are “the ideal solution” for those committed to shaping a sustainable future. It is no longer just about fulfilling our social responsibility but embracing our duty to safeguard our planet for future generations!

How are Indi Energy’s sodium-ion batteries Promoting Sustainability?

At Indi Energy, we are on a mission to make energy storage more affordable and sustainable. Traditionally, lithium-ion batteries are costly at about $140 per kWh, primarily because lithium can cost almost up to $37,000 per ton. Whereas, our sodium-ion battery technology, powered by one of the world’s highest-performing hard carbons derived from bio-waste, BioBlackTM, is not only cost-effective but also environmentally friendly!

Moreover, sodium is extremely affordable at just $200-$300 per ton which, when coupled with the fact that our sodium-ion batteries can leverage existing lithium-ion production infrastructure, minimizing the need for additional capital investments.

Research indicates that sodium-ion batteries are expected to average out at $80-$90 per kWh since they have been designed for a wide range of applications, from stationary energy storage systems to electric vehicles and portable electronics. We are delighted to claim that Indi Energy is taking giant strides to deliver sustainable and safe energy solutions.

Our sodium-ion batteries exemplify our commitment to innovative and sustainable energy solutions. Moreover, recognizing the potential impact of our sodium-ion batteries on climate action, Energy Alternatives India heralded Indi Energy as one of its “Top 100 Innovative Indian Startups in Climate Action,” along with The Better India, which names us one of the “5 Innovating Startups Revolutionising India’s Renewable Energy Sector.”
