Welcome to the thirty-seventh issue of “Sodium-ion Batteries Technology Updates,” a series from Indi Energy, one of the world’s leading sodium battery companies and India’s first indigenous sodium-ion battery manufacturers.

Indi Energy is a DRDO 3.0, NSA’22, & SIDBI Environmental Challenge’24 winner and one of the world’s leading sodium battery companies involved in developing, developing, and commercializing sodium-ion batteries and customizable sodium-ion battery packs.

As part of the Make in India initiative, Indi Energy has its own supply chain for our sodium-ion batteries, which is completely indigenous, a.k.a. homegrown. We are setting a new benchmark in the energy storage sector by transforming energy storage solutions sustainably. In this thirty-seventh issue of sodium-ion battery technology updates, we will go through the recent updates in the world of sodium-ion batteries, the energy sector, and an overview of the global energy outlook.

Sodium-ion Battery–Global Market Forecast

In a recent study by MarketsandMarkets™, the global sodium-ion battery market is projected to skyrocket from $0.5 billion in 2023 to an astonishing $1.2 billion by 2028, achieving a remarkable 21.5% CAGR!

At Indi Energy, we are not surprised by these projections. Technological advancements, ongoing research to enhance sodium-ion battery performance, and increased government support through incentives have significantly boosted their adoption. A trend that is already visible in automobiles, telecommunications, healthcare, aerospace, defense, grid storage, and more

But what is the reason behind this unprecedented rate of adoption? The primary reason is the cost-effectiveness of sodium-ion batteries compared to lithium-ion batteries. Thanks to the abundance of sodium and the low cost of sodium reserves, these batteries have reduced production costs, benefitting both industries and end consumers. Imagine your electric vehicles, gadgets, and devices costing substantially less while being more sustainable and safe.

As one of the few sodium battery companies worldwide, we know that the wide distribution of sodium reserves is going to play a crucial role in mitigating the supply chain risks already visible within lithium-ion batteries.

What goes into the sodium-ion batteries?

Ever wondered what goes into a sodium-ion battery? Well, in this section we will tell you about it! Let’s break it down. While specific materials vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, all sodium-ion batteries consist of four essential components:

  1. Cathode: Contains sodium-based materials that release sodium ions during charge and discharge.
  2. Anode: Utilizes hard carbon to intercalate sodium ions, which is crucial for charging and discharging.
  3. Electrolyte: Responsible for ensuring continuous energy flow.
  4. Separator: Safely separates the anode and cathode to prevent direct contact between the electrodes.

At Indi Energy, we are harnessing sodium, one of Earth’s most abundant elements, integrating it with our proprietary, BioBlackTM—bio waste and agricultural waste derived organic hard carbon, sodium-ion cathode, and sustainable liquid sodium electrolyte. They form the core components of our sodium-ion batteries and customizable sodium-ion battery packs, capable of delivering optimum performance while setting the industry’s highest safety standards.

Imagine a world where energy is abundant, eco-friendly, and efficient! Our innovative sodium battery technology harnesses widely available resources, ensuring reduced environmental impact, and exceptional performance under any conditions! With a focus on safety, longevity, and rapid charging, we are not just powering devices; we are powering a sustainable future—a greener and healthier planet.
